Ack! It seems that all the tests that you use to test water give parts per million (ppm) or milligrams per liter (mg/l) - same thing. But everything in books or online for environments use esoteric terms such as dH or KH. I did some research and finally found the following equations:
1 dGH (dH) = 17.8 CaCO3 ppm
1 dKH (dCH) = 17.8 carbonate hardness ppm
But that is still a pain in the butt for having to grab a calculator to figure dH and dCH after water testing, so I googled further and was fortunate to find this.
