Getting Replacement Water Ready
Posted on 9:06 PM by Unknown
As per SeaChem's recommendation, I added 1/4 teaspoon of SeaChem Acid Buffer to the 4 gallons tap water and then tested carbonate hardness. Carbonate hardness tested to 60 ppm. I added an additional 1/8 teaspoon Acid Buffer, and retested carbonate hardness at 50 ppm. I then added 1/4 teaspoon more Acid Buffer, and the carbonate hardness then tested at 0 ppm. Finally! Before this replacment water can be added to my tank, I need to make sure that its pH is at least neutral - however, the pH tested at well below 6.0. I can't use it!!! I'm going to wait and see if the replacment water will oxygenate (and therefore pH will rise) without the use of an air pump and aeration.
