Miscellaneous Post...

This is a "catch-all" post: In the past week, I've setup the church for podcasting and move quite a bit more information on to the Grace Bible Church Wiki.

The podcasting is pretty cool. I use my laptop and Audacity to record the unbalanced output of the pastor's wireless microphone. After recording the sermon, it's just a matter of a quick conferral with Dean to find out any edits he might want made (removing extra silence on the the tail end of the sermon, or any pre-sermon notices given). In all, I can take the raw audio and have it ready in less than thirty minutes for publishing. After that, I use a PHP script installed on the rbcgrace.com server called "Podcast Generator". It's pretty slick in every way - except that I can't upload via PHP due to some weird connection error with large uploads (looks like a BellSouth problem.) Regardless, I can upload via FTP to and then Podcast Generator is smart enough to recognize that a new MP3 is ready to publish. I have a URL that I then goto that pings the iTunes store to state that a new podcast is available.

As far as the wiki work, whew! I've been quite busy. Setting things up initially takes some organization and then adding the content is just a bit more work. No problems though. I do enjoy seeing the end result.

As a result, I haven't been posting about my Bible Reading progress. (Still going!) But I am collecting favorites and blurbs about specific verses in Psalms for a later blog posting.

Look! A Pastor Dean Post!

Check it out! Pastor Dean has posted. I have to admit that is a pretty good first post (and only one grammatical messup [the double "the"]).

News over here - another photo album has been loaded up. Just in time for the annual Auburn vs. Alabama football bash too! At work, I'm still cleaning up the mess from Monday afternoon - though I do feel somewhat satisfied that I am getting more organized than I was previously.

As a wrap-up to this post, I want to tell why I have started blogging again. There's no single reason. In fact, I feel as if the more I blog, the more reasons I can come up with for blogging. I use this to "blow off steam", to get stuff off of my mind, to share my digital pictures, and maybe, in case the Lord tarries, to let the next generation of Todds have a little insight into this generation of Todds. Are any of those good, valid reasons to blog? I don't know. Maybe I'm just wasting time.

Maybe Today!

Just posting that I hope I have enough time today to get everything done. I hope to get at least two items onto eBay, and one or two photo albums up. But the pile of work to do here is pretty thick... Time will tell.

I did chat with Dean last night (for maybe a minute or two). He's off at some sort of conference and told me that he was saving up and taking notes for six or seven posts to his blog. Woot! I will make sure that I check his posts out and notify you here as well.

Waiting

Dean! Where's a post? Just one to say "Hello. I am Dean, and I'll drop some of my nuggets of wisdom (or whatever else might come out) from time to time here". I'm keeping tabs and I'm ready to answer any questions should you want to make some format changes or other.

Ok. Got that out of the way. I am hoping and praying that today goes much better than the last two days. Of course, it doesn't have to be much to be better - a lien on house from IRS and a broken vacuum makes for some bad days...

I've got lots of work to do, but that's not new. Stay tuned to this channel!

Blogger.com Troubles

Uggh. I've been trying to get Dean's blog switched over to the Grace Bible Church domain, but it's been a struggle with blogger.com having all sorts of trouble. I think that I'm finished for the time being (at least I hope so!)

Maybe now I can get back to some real work.

The bad of the morning? I think I might have messed up my Google account by signing up for the Blogger beta there (instead of waiting and transferring over this blogger.com account when the beta comes out of beta.)

Nope, No Pastor Dean Blog Yet...

Whelp, here I am blogging and chatting with my pastor at the same time.

The "No news is good news" moment of the day is here and gone - Dean is waaaaay too busy to start his blog up yet. I mean, only a wedding, a birthday, and his mother in town for him to attend to... I know he can multi-task, but I'll give him a pass for the time being. He did mention that he could make his first blog post in the recovery stage of this week.

Dean, I'm holding your feet to the fire on that one... ;)

And as far as the pictures and organization/posting? I finished up organizing and captioning all of the pictures in Picasa that I had previously organized under Photoshop Album. Now I just need to figure out the best way for publishing those...

And in Other News...

Oh yeah. The other reason that I'm re-starting the blog: I've started helping my church with a website and I've encouraged our pastor - Dean Wood - to start a blog there. I didn't think it would be very nice of me to be pushing him toward blogging unless I maintained one as well.

If I'm successful in encouraging him, I'll be sure to link his blog from here.

Which reminds me, I need to link the church's website from here too!
