This is a post for the *history* of my aquarium. This post and all of the posts from here to April 16 are "historical" posts - meaning that I am simply using this blog as a historical repository for my "Newbie Aquarist" beginnings.
I bought a MarineLand Labs Eclipse System 12 12 gallon plexiglass aquarium from Lang's Tropical Fish in Glencoe, Alabama. I convinced my wife that we *needed* an aquarium to be placed in our five month old son's room to help him sleep through the night. Based on this premise, Christy just wanted to get the smallest aquarium that would "do the job" while I was wanting to jump in and buy BIG. I had gone by another local fish shop called Fish Tails in Rainbow City, Alabama, and the smallest tank that they had to offer was a 29 gallon tank. Knowing what I know now, I should have just gone ahead and purchased that one.... Hindsight is 20-20...
Anyway, I purchased with the tank, two bags of filtered, freshwater rock substrate, and a small 100W top mounted heater. For everything in this purchase, I basically let Lang's make the decisions (other than the size of the tank). I'm planning to stock this tank with freshwater fish and live plants.
I got home and setup the tank on top of Christian's dresser. As I was setting up the tank, I found that I was missing the Rite Size G filter that was supposed to come with the tank. I'm planned on running the filtration for a few days before I put anything in the tank - hoping that the addition of this white noise into Christian's room starts to help him sleep through the night.
